OUR CITY SCHOOLS PROGRAMME
Through the support of Inner City Enterprise and Dublin City Council, we now offer specialised tours to secondary schools! The Our City school programme offers our same great tour, tailored to secondary school Transition Year students. It blends Dublin history with our guides' personal experiences, now with a focus on curriculum-aligned discussions.
We provide schools with a resource pack that outlines senior-cycle curriculum links, classroom preparation activities, and post-tour reflection guides.
Why It Matters
Our tours shed light on the current and pressing issue of homelessness that Ireland faces. Destigmatising conversations around homelessness gives people a better understanding of how to engage with the topic and humanises people in crisis.
Our programme equips our tour guides with the skills and a platform to share their story. At the same time, it offers students a unique and powerful channel to engage with one of Dublin's most pressing social challenges.
What Students Gain
Stereotypes often take control of narratives surrounding homelessness and the people who experience it. Young people in Transition Year are still learning and comprehending concepts such as misinformation and stereotypes. Our tour provides them with a channel to interact with and examine these concepts in a real-world setting.
The awareness this fosters can lead to them being less susceptible to misinformation around homelessness and more likely to challenge stereotypes they hear in their personal lives. In our post-tour survey for schools that have participated in our tours, 51% of participants stated that as a result of taking the tour they were likely to talk to friends or family about what they had learnt.
DEIS Schools
We offer complimentary tours to DEIS secondary schools located in Dublin. If you are a Dublin-based DEIS secondary school, you can avail of the tour completely free.
The funded DEIS tour period will run from September 2026 – May 2027.
